Deploying reCAPTCHA – Spam is a nightmare

One of the biggest issues that we have been dealing with for the longest time, is spam. Unlike email spam, these nasty little bots’ auto sign up accounts, and try to comment on multiple blogposts etc. If you think you have spam problems, try running a website.

Been trying to find a better, more elegant solution to manage it – but nothing seems to have worked.

So, reluctantly, I have deployed reCAPTCHA across the site. You will now have to prove that you are human, any time that you’re making big changes to your account: signing up for an account, managing your Village ID account, commenting on blogposts, purchasing on the shop etc.

I have really tried to find a better solution – but even the new site is starting to receive unwanted visitors, mass signing up fake accounts and spamming comments already. So, even though I personally hate reCAPTCHA – I’ve bitten the bullet and installed it. This post is mainly to give me an opportunity to say sorry.
