2023 is definitely going to become the year of amazing change for the Village, and it all starts with Village Memberships. As a Twitch Streamer, the biggest frustration with Twitch Subs has always been the lack of ability to offer anything of value to you – the channel’s subscribers, in return for your generous monthly contributions. This whole community would simply would not be able to exist without these contributions – but it’s worth so much, yet we can only offer so little with the Twitch platform.
I’ve always talked about the ‘Value for Value’ system: If you find value from what we do, then support what you think it is worth. However, Twitch seems to be convinced that giving the ability for a viewer to watch ad-free, unlock a few emotes and getting a badge next to their name in the chatroom is enough for their support. I do not agree with that.
If I was in charge of Twitch, I would have implemented a Patreon-style system alongside the main channel features. Giving the streamer the ability to offer additional digital items and services at different tiers, as a thank you to their supporters. Similar to what YouTube has finally implemented. But alas, they refuse to do it. Twitch has said several times on their blog, that they do not wish to be the core of a streamers digital community, but instead happy to be a part of it for the streaming needs. But in this system, in my humble opinion, they are missing the point – especially in this financially tight society.
As a streamer, my competitor is not a fellow streamer. I feel this is a short-sighted point of view. My actual competitor is actually Netflix, Disney+, Peacock (if anyone actually subscribes there), and any other monthly subscriptions viewers have – magazines, Hello Fresh, gym membership etc. Basically, as a streamer, I need to have a valuable proposition for viewers in this highly competitive financially constant world.
However, as Twitch takes 50% cut of all subs purchased, and offer very little extra for that transaction, it has come time to find and build an alternative. Hence, Village Memberships. A way for the same money, to offer a catalogue of products and services. The ability to bring additional support to your spiritual development, as we go through this troubling time. However, the only thing I cannot include is ad-free watching on Twitch.
There will be some things, like Coffee Mornings and On Air (Subs) call ins, that will still be available as perks for Twitch Subscribers. But the vast majority of perks, and to get the most value for your support of Greatest Good Tarot, I’d strongly recommend to check out Village Memberships.
